After God first wrote His Ten Commandments and Moses brought them down Mount Sinai people were worshipping a golden calf and God brought down His wrath upon them. That was over 3000 years ago and since then false gods and false goddesses all over the world.
When the end of the world actually comes all those who didn't do the holy thing and worship the only God who counts will pay for it.
