Silence for years but in a certain way yes and a certain way no. God's 2nd Commandment Thou Shalt Not Make Unto thee any graven image. Too many people bow down to statues as if they are idols but in fact human beings who could never do what God does.
The yes part God commanded not to make anything and that word alone should say it all. But if people want to do this it's up to them.
Paintings on the other hand are a different way to honor people as long as they are not treated as idols in the eyes of God.
